Conservation appeal

Staff at the archive want to preserve fragile documents for years to come and our most popular volumes sometimes require re-binding and conservation work to strengthen the spines of the volumes.

We try to use preventative methods wherever possible such as keeping volumes in environmentally monitored conditions; storing them carefully, but occasionally have to step in to prevent documents from being damaged through regular use.

This is where you can help; we need to raise £1000 to conserve original copies of the Co-operative News first published in 1919. These are vital resources for researchers and tell us so much about life in the early 20th Century.

We try to digitise original records where possible, but this is harder to do with newspapers as they have mixed content.

News update:  We have reached our target!

Thanks to an enormously generous donation through our website, this conservation target has been reached.

The donor wishes to remain anonymous, but we at the Heritage Trust are very grateful indeed for this help in looking after one of our most popular collections. This donation will go a long way towards ensuring that materials are available for others to learn from and enjoy in the future.

Heartfelt thanks from the heritage team and trustees.
